Iyengar Yoga · Matakana, New Zealand
A practice built around the rhythms your body already knows.
Yoga for every phase of your moon cycle.
The philosophy
When women understand their shifts in mood, wants and needs, they are more in control of their own lives. When women know themselves — rather than feeling as though they've been thrashed around by an unpredictable storm — they are self-aware and able to navigate the stormy waters with more confidence and grace.
The moon completes its cycle in 29.5 days. So does a woman's body. This is not coincidence — it is architecture. Moon Cycle Yoga works with that architecture, not against it. Each phase of your cycle calls for a different practice, a different energy, a different kind of attention.
The four phases
Every month your body moves through four distinct seasons. Understanding where you are changes everything about how you practice — and how you live.
Menstruation · Days 1–5
The wise woman. Death & renewal.
"How can I show myself love right now?"
Follicular · Days 6–16
The goddess. Re-emergence.
"What opportunities are emerging?"
Ovulation · Days 17–22
The nurturer. Full radiance.
"What am I most grateful for?"
Luteal · Days 22–29
The wild woman. Shedding.
"What can I release this cycle?"
About Luisa
As a competitive swimmer in her teens, Luisa's period stopped completely — her hormones, as her doctor noted, were those of a woman in menopause. It took a homeopath, then food and lifestyle changes, and eventually Iyengar yoga to bring her body back into rhythm.
It was in her thirties, working with a practice developed by Dr. Geeta Iyengar — daughter of B.K.S. Iyengar — that everything changed. Her cycle became regular for the first time. She hasn't stopped practicing since.
This knowledge, she says, would have changed her life if she'd had it younger. Now she shares it — not as theory, but as a practice she has lived through every stage.
Work with Luisa →The practice
A personalised yoga sequence built around where you are in your cycle. Each phase has its own poses, inversions, and breath practices — developed through decades of Iyengar methodology and Luisa's own experience.
The body's transition is not a problem to be managed. Luisa works with women through perimenopause and menopause using specific Iyengar sequences that support hormonal balance, nervous system regulation, and bone density.
With a Master's in Food Science and Endocrinology, Luisa integrates seed cycling and nutritional guidance into the practice — supporting oestrogen and progesterone balance naturally across the cycle.
Food as medicine
Seed cycling is a gentle, natural technique for supporting hormonal balance by rotating specific seeds through the phases of your cycle. Four seeds. Two phases. One continuous rhythm.
Even if you are not cycling, you can follow the moon cycle itself — the principle remains the same.
Follicular Phase
Flax Seeds
Rich in ALA omega-3 and phytoestrogens. Supports oestrogen balance.
Follicular Phase
Pumpkin Seeds
High in zinc — supports follicular maturation and reduces inflammation.
Luteal Phase
Sesame Seeds
Magnesium, calcium, and zinc — support bones and hormonal health.
Luteal Phase
Sunflower Seeds
Vitamin E — may support progesterone and reduce pelvic pain.
